Do you need credit on your mobile phone to read a message sent on facebook?
I have sent a few messages to a friend via facebook. This person used to be on facebook all the time but recently they have not used it much. However I can see this person has seen my messages as it shows the time they have seen it and when I look at the time they were last active it works out to be exactly the same time they saw my message. I have sent a few sms messages also and not had a reply.

A few friends of mine have suggested maybe my friend I am messaging does not have enough credit on their phone to send a reply either through sms or facebook.

Could this be correct or is the person just ignoring my messages as unsure if they would be able to see a message on facebook without credit.
This person is on pay as you go and uses his phone to access facebook. This is why I am asking if he is low on phone credit would it allow him to see facebook messages sent to him on his phone but not able to return anything due to not enough credit

I know you can receive sms messages even though you have no credit to reply as this is what happens with my partner.

Incorrect, facebook is free to use. Sms is included on most phone plans unless they are on a pay as you go type of plan, where everything is prepaid, including data. Unless they explicitly use sms, then you would notice there was no "seen at [time]" return status in the chat or messages.

You Dont Need Any Credits to Use Facebook And Using Facebook has Nothing to Do With Phone Credits Unless He Has Data Credits than If He Used them Up Than That May Be Why He May Not Be Replying

For messaging you do not require any money. In fact even for playing you do not require so much of money, you can easily grab facebook credits by playing few games (like facebook offers some credits to play games on "Winlot Social").
Facenook ads do require credit card information.
