Am i able to block a person who was never on my friends list to begin with? Just to prevent them from sending a friend request? If they were never on my friends list from the start will they know i blocked them or can they ever know? What happens if i unblock them, will fb automatically send a request or something

Yes you can. Go on the persons profile and do it there or go to privacy,blocking and then add persons name. If you unblock them you can send them a request yourself, fb doesn't automatically do it. But remember you cannot block the person for 48 hours after unblocking them

Just go to the person's profile and click "block this person"

The person will never know that you blocked them and they will not get notified that you blocked him and they can't able to view your profile.
