Is a person still notified of a friend request even if you have cancelled it on Facebook?

I have accidentally added this guy I went to primary school twice now. The first time I added him I realised quite quickly and I cancelled the request. The second time I didn't even realise that I had done it and when I was a mutual friends page I seen pending friend request under his name. I cancelled it immediately and I don't think he seen it because I'm sure he would have accepted as I have spoken to him before (I took it back because I haven't spoken to him in years and I thought it would be a bit weird) Anyway all of my friends have said that he will still get a notification that I added him but I'm just wondering if he will?

If you cancelled it before he looked at it then he won't get a notification.

He won't get a nonfiction but he will and/or might notice that your not on his friend list. It happend to me when someone declined a friend request from me.
