Why do some people care so much about facebook likes?

Some even go as far as tell me to like their picture or they reupload it so its on people newsfeed again, anyone else think this is sad?

Yep very sad, they probably want to feel loved with the likes they get or show how much friends they have on fb. Some would even make a status telling people on facebook to like their "profile profile" and they will get a "paragraph" in return. It's when people write a long sentence about what they like about the other person.
