why do people want a lot of facebook likes?

i see my friends post a lot of pics of themselves trying to get a lot of likes on facebook, what is the point of it all??

They are looking for some kind of approval from people. For example I see girls all the time that post many pictures of them selves every day and get up sett if they don't get a lot of likes and comments telling them how pretty they are. So in conclusion its because there insecure with themselves

When someone does that they are just seeking attention and wants approval from their friends. This is just the same as wearing the latest fashionable clothes to be not necessarily in the "in-crowd" but just to be accepted in society or the community an individual lives in.
