Don't use twitter if you want to have a real discussion about something online. That is what forums are for.

Twitter is like graffiti. Ultimately, everyone just posts there for their own sake, not for others. As such the mentality of people that use it is to follow the people who say interest, funny, or stupid things to see if they will say something else interesting, funny, or stupid.

If you want real people to discuss a subject, I would seriously consider changing your venue.
