Does facebook know that my friend passed away?

One of my friends passed away two years ago today, so I looked at her facebook to look at pictures of her just to have a moment. I noticed on her facebook it said "Lived in _____" and "Was single" as her relationship status. I don't know if this is just because her account hasn't been logged into since she passed, or that facebook knew about her passing. I am so confused.
I screenshotted what it looked like. I have heard of people making fan pages for people that have passed, but this is her facebook we used to chat on.

I'm not entirely sure, but I think there is a way to notify Facebook that the holder of an account passed away, and they change it from an active page to a memorial page that can no longer be edited and remains frozen in time.

Hmm, that is odd. Sometimes when someone passes away, a friend or family member can directly contact Facebook letting them know. Say if they want the account to remain active and not get deleted for not being active so people can still go on their page, or if they want the account deleted. So maybe someone contacted Facebook telling them she had passed and they for some reason changed her updates from present to past.

If someone have updated in his/her profile the only we can came to know about this thing. Yes fan pages are made on the facebook mostly for the marketing purposes. So it is your choice whether you can like or not.

Somebody Probably Logged into Her Facebook And Updated Things Thats Why The Facebook Team Does Not Know That Anybody Passed Away
