On Facebook when I look through?

my friends, friend list and it says we have so many in common but then when I take a look who..it has doesn't have same count as what it says. Example= you and Jane have 5 mutual friends but when I click to see who, it doesn't show 5 people it will show less. Why is this? Thanks to ll who answer =]
I know that its not because their friend list or mine is private. Mutual friends can still be seen. and Its not because their 'search' is private..that wouldn't affect our friend list. But thanks for answering =]

Because some of your friends have hidden their friends list so they won't appear in the mutual list , although they are common friends

Some people have their profile private so that means you can't search them up.
