facebook and social anxiety?
Hi,
I have really bad social anxiety and facebook only makes it worse. I feel really bad that a lot of people from past schools get like 40, 60, and then 100-300 likes on their profile pictures. I hate changing mine because it gives me a ton of anxiety, literally my heart starts pounding out of my chest and Im freaking out for like 10 minutes, then sometimes I delete it if no one likes it because I feel like it looks embarrassing. I also used get anxious about updating my wall and no one posting on it for a week, etc. but now I gave up on that. I don't want to deactivate it again because I just started college and I know a lot of people show interest in each other through fb rather than real life, but I'm so sick of dealing with it, yet I don't want to run away from the reality of the social life concept. What should I do? How do I stop caring/worrying about it so much? Why do I feel so worthless when I see other people getting over 100 likes on their profile pics? Help/advice please from anyone who can relate!

People "friend" everyone they know on Facebook (and connect with some people they don't know). There are so many narcissists on it it's unbelievable and it seems to make people who were on the edge of being that way worse. Also, people also display their life the way they want to be perceived rather than how their life really is. They are literally missing so many things in life because they're too wrapped up documenting every little mundane thing while they are missing out on real life. And there are quite a few people on Facebook who are gathering that many "friends" out of insecurity.

Friends on Facebook are not real friends. Nobody has hundreds of close friends.

Also people might not even see your updates. Facebook mainly shows your updates to those who have recently interacted with you. So if you post something, you can't be sure that people have even seen it.
