Know any good ways to get more twitter followers?

Hi, I have noticed that there are quite a few websites and software that claims to get you more twitter followers. But the fact is that unless you are (a) A celeb (b) A well known brand or © an obsessive tweeter who has time to follow thousands of people.. You wont get many followers.

Here is my list of funny things I see people doing on twitter with the obvious intent of getting followers..

1) Tweet a half sensicle tweet that contains as many trending topics as possible.. for example todays trending topics are.

# #biggestliethatworked
# #5millionbeliebers
# #happybdaybeyonce
# UConn
# Purdue
# Notre Dame
# Fathers
# College Football

So you could tweet " went 2 c fathers college football team at notre dame this year without rain spoiling it like last year LOL"

2) reply to a celeb in a way that seems like they had mentioned you.. like " @rustyrockets HAHAH yeah mate, I might try that one time..LOL" People then think you are a friend of theirs and follow you..

3) start an account pretending to be a celebs evil alterego.. like @evil-oprah or @evil-obama or @evil-jimcarrey and then parady their life in a funny way.. tweeting things like.. "picked my toenails and sprinkled them in the cats bowl".. anything that makes people think WTF?

Does anyone else have any tips or have you seen people blatantly trying to get followers with underhand tactics?
@pat The format of twitter does open the door to mass spammers and advertisers. But the majority of people on twitter are geniune. Twitter is a private Ltd. company so it has no real need to fake popularity. In fact to do so by adding fake people to its database would actually cost them in bandwidth and as such, money. Twitter has been an important social tool in instances such as the iran elections and raising money for haiti. Twitter forms an international network of people that transends national boundries and rivalries, upholds free speech in its purest form and reflects the trends of the global community.

Okay... here's what I've heard you can do. You follow lots of people, and then some of these people will follow you back. Then you wait a couple of weeks. Then... you can change your twitter name.. Then... delete most of the people you've followed. Then you'll have lots of followers without actually following alot of people.

I have had fake followers, sent by the twits.
Look at your own.
Try to contact them.
I dare you.



Twitter is a scam.
Half of those people that you think are following you don't exist.
Twitter makes them up to make their lame site look successful.

Pretty good methods but also very time consuming
If your really serious about getting followers then turn your attention to a social media marketing company.

Companies like wantfans.com will get you a couple thousand followers a week.
