How is 'Harry Potter' changing social media?

Harry Potter is a huge influence to millions of people today. But how does it affect the way we see social media? How is 'Harry Potter' changing social media like Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, etc, today?

I don't think it's actively changing it as much as it did back in the late 1990's and early 2000's. Back then, before Facebook or MySpace, online forums and chatrooms were the most social a person could get online, and the Harry Potter fandom grew so large, so quickly because fans were able to connect with each other through these channels.

it's created a generation of people who all have something in common - a love for Harry Potter!

Potter fans on facebook can meet other fans, same goes for Twitter, & fans come together in an attempt to get Potter subjects trending.
On youtube, fans can share there favourite clips etc, make fan videos, and some even start bands based on the books (e.g. Harry and the Potters)

also, Pottermore brings fans together & they can 'experience' Hogwarts life for themselves.

I think this is a very weak premise unfortunately. HP jumped on the bandwagon of several 'media' ideas that were already out. Nothing new evolved from HP. Pottermore promises to be a more interactive database for Potterfans and for some reason I'm thinking it willl just be a centralized location for things like a Potter wiki page, a forum to chat with the author (it will probably have the most asked questions with previous answers), links to youtube videos and messaging and music and maybe other little 'magic' things sent to your twitter account or e-mail. Sort of like back in the day when children could make and recieve calls from Santa or mail. This is more marketing than media since it is already being done.
