Using 'social media' to raise the profile of an organisation? how?
I have a job interview next week at a college, and need to prepare for a presentation. (ten mins). Marketing / PR Officer.

The task is to explain how "I would use social media to raise the profile of the college, and attract / recruit new students".

I don't know tonnes about social media.... Maybe someone is out there in the UK or wherever who can give me a heads up on this or marketing.

Thanks.

If you are using facebook and myspace you can make your presentation easily on your topic.."I would use social media to raise the profile of the college, and attract / recruit new students". In facebook you will get some person who are present his company, product.......

You should not only set up MySpace and Face Book accounts, but also a Twitter account where you'll be able to send immediate information to current or new students. You'll be able to tweet your registration "Call to Action" page via Bit.Ly. Using a Bit.Ly will help you to track the number of clicks and re-tweets if you sign up for an account with them.

Friend Finder is much like Twitter. You should also use LinkedIn and create an Alumni group for the school and also a recruitment group and link the two together so your Alumni and prospects can inter-connect. E-mail is also a good thing, but could be too time consuming and might appear "spammy".

Also, ask a few businesses on Twitter (click the link in the bio) and see how They use social media for their businesses.

Here is an article I wrote on "Social Media and Reciprocity" http://bit.ly/9TWbxd

Hi there,

I would definitely include video marketing - sites like Youtube but there are others. Traffic Geyser for example will upload videos to many different sites.

So, why video? Well, it's probably the single easiest way for people to get a real feeling of what the college has to offer, text formats are limited. With video marketing you can interview real students, show off college facilities, sports teams, SU bars, nightlife etc.

To get great Google (and other search engine) rankings create a college blog and automate posts to Twitter and Facebook all at the touch of a button. Check out a huge number of other social networking sites and "ping" your blog posts to them at Ping.FM all with one click.

One other thing you could include in your presentation is a social media map - just Google it for examples of how many top internet marketers set up their social media campaigns.

Hope this helps and good luck in your interview

Martin
