How do you get a verified account on twitter?
How do you start the process going? I know that they will need to contact you via a means other than twitter, but how do you get them to contact you?

Twitter has verified accounts of well-known celebrities or other famous people as a limited test to see what impact they have on the community. It's not for 'general release' yet, but they are thinking of implementing it.

The idea is that businesses and other frequently impersonated people can finally have one verified account which people know is legitimate.

A verified profile basically mean that Twitter staff have contacted the the person or entity the account is representing and verified that it is indeed who they claim they are. This will really help avoid impersonation or identity confusion where celebrities are involved, and avoid potential lawsuits.

There is a form where people can people can request verification. But Twitter warns that they verify a limited number of accounts and submitting a request does not guarantee account verification. They suggest you use the form only “if your account is constantly competing with parody or impersonation accounts.”

A good idea before you fill the form is to have a Twitter badge or logo on your official site linking back to your profile, which will help in easy verification. Twitter is still not reviewing verified business accounts, but they let you submit your request for verifying businesses for future consideration.
