No. It's off limits precisely because of what is happening on Wall Street, who have been trying to get their hands on it for years.

No, that is what Congress uses to try and balance the budget. It is suppose to be off limits but is actually tied up in T bills.

No. it should be and can be. The SS Act does not preclude investing the extra to raise rates or to insure the future. When enacted they knew it would take years before it was fully funded and so was designed (known) to operate as a loss for the first few years...they knew with population projections (Yep! They had them back then) that in the future there were be extra money that could be used to either raise the SS payments (sweet) or save it or invest it (for future generations that may be larger -ie BOOMERS)

There was no regulation that forced REAGAN or BUSH 1 or BUSH 2 to spend our excess SS dollars for other things.

Time to do what you suggest. It is already legal. BUT maybe we should get a law to force them to invest it...at least buy Euros...(sorry)

The social security money is not invested at all. We would be better off if it had been invested in the market. Even at 10,000 the Dow Jones has grown tenfold over the last 30 years.
