Internet marketing and SEO - Where should I focus my efforts?
There are so many tactics to boosting your site and keyword rankings. Currently I am trying a little bit of everything such as link building, blog posts, article writing, social media marketing, forum posting, etc. I want to know the tactic(s) that I should be focusing on most because doing all of this is extremely time consuming.

Hey Sarah,

Honestly, you can simply doing all of them BUT connect them all.

Here is the simplest answer I can give you...

The Most Important Thing You Want To Do Is...

Build Your Audience, Build Your Brand and Build Relationships With That Audience!

Now it will come down to how effective you are at "capturing" those who visit your site into your funnel.

You Also Want To "Re-Purpose Your Content"

1. What I like to do is take a reply of mine from a "forum" and put it as a "blog post" on my blog. By answering 1 persons question you can help those who visit your blog.

2. Then "re-write" it a lil' as a article.

3. Then tell your "Social Media Audeince" to come check out your new "blog post" and then link up to your "Article".

For me, I like to create a video and submit to Video Sites like YouTube. Then transcribe the video and use that transcription as a blog post and submit it as an article. Then I tell me people on Social Media about the new content. Then I go to the forums and start a thread with the same helpful content!

And of course there are way to AUTOMATE this process.

* WP to TWITTER is a plug-in that will update Twitter everytime you make a new blog post.

* Then you can have Twitter AUTOMATICALLY update your Facebook.

* And so on!

If you ever need any help hit me up on Facebook or Twitter and I will be more than happy to help you out.

You are on the right track, but you should focus on one method.

Pick one and do it every day, you'll become an expert over time.

It takes time to see results.

Do not jump from one tactic to an other.

After 1-3 months do the next one.

Granted that your site has valuable content and interesting to visitors, you should focus on building an unlimited number of quality backlinks.

Quality backlinks are one-way links that come from relevant sites and are hyperlinks anchored on your keywords.

Social media traffic using anchored links can prop up a site in the SERPs for a while. But traffic from these places are usually courtesy visits. Unless you are a celebrity or a guru worth following, you may have "followers" but no listeners. SEO however is more long-term and is geared for fresh visitors from organic searches who are more targeted.

If there is only one thing you can do, let it be SEO because the Internet will not cease to be about searches.

Hello Focus My efforts,

The keyword here is "tactics". The key is to never implement a tactic without a strategy. What is the strategy behind each tactic you are performing? Are you looking to create brand awareness, lead generation, have a customer sign up for your email? What is the purpose of driving prospects to your site?

Since you didn't give me much information about your business, I can't give you a detailed anwser. However, I can give you a pretty general anwser.

1. Identify your target market( who do you want to serve and make sure they are most likely to be interested in what you offer.)

2. What's your objective? ( what is the reason behind implementing each tactic.

3. How are you going to reach your goals( implementing the tactics.) These are the ones I feel you should do step by step.

1. Seo (Search Engine Optimization)- Put your marketing on autopilot
2. Forum Posting- Great way to build relationships, provide value, get article ideas & get backlinks for seo purposes
3. Article Marketing- good way to show your expertise & get backlinks for seo purposes
4. Online Press Releases- great way to get exposure for your business& get backlinks
5: Compelling web content & copy- engage your customer, and tell them to take action; download report, book session, buy now- good way for high conversion rates
6. Social Media marketing ( Facebook, Youtube, Twitter)- great way to build relationships, get customer feedback, engage your customers, lead generation, etc.
7. Email Marketing - keep in touch with your prospects, provide value and show them that you are the solution on a consistent basis.

I can't go into much detail here. However, I wrote a detailed report : 7 free & easy ways to market your business on a budget via the internet.( Whew ! what a title)! Anyway, to give you a more accurate answer , I would need to know more about your business and your target market. ( Is your target market actually engaging in online activities?).

You are absolutely on the right track..and yes definitely all this is time consuming. The best thing to do is initially start focusing on 1-2 keywords. Keep in mind that you work on link building with high PR pages. Link building with social bookmarking and web 2.0 properties with PR4+ is a good idea. These are visible in search engines within 2-3 days.

Hay Sarah
Your doing the right thing - just keep at it and you will see results soon - I would advise you to concentrate on one method but this isnt the way to go as you will need a variety of sources for your backlink building strategy.
What I mean by this is that its important to use all the methods you mentioned and some more - if i was doing my seo work then for the offsite work I would be doing the following

article marketing
blog commenting
forum postings
rss feed sumissions
directory submissions
profile backlinking
web 2.0 account creations-such as hubpages -squidoo lenses
blog creations
Bookmarking
software submissions

just to name a few - please stay away from link farms and devalued directories - Also its not a good idea to do reciprocal linking.

when you create your backlinks use your keywords as the anchor text. also you will need to make sure you have optimised your pages properly - so pay attention and use your keywords in your

title
meta description
meta keywords
heading tags
body text

Also make sure you have a sitemap and use latent symentic indexing. Its also advisable to make sure your internal linking structure is good

hope this helps

Getting good rank is very time consuming, but effort is paid very well. Smile

If you lack the time to create enough links, you should outsource your projects. There are many people willing to do everything you mentioned for you for a certain price.

Your aim should be to focus on websites with high PR. One link from a good PR website is worth 1000 times more than a link from some low quality website.

Posting on forums is a very good way to get short termed targeted traffic, but it's still time consuming.

Regards,
