can friends see if you follow them on Facebook?

i was scrolling through a friends page and accidentally un ticked the following option, which i assume automatically ticks when you friend them. Anyway i re-ticked it but i am just worried i will look like a creep haha will it notify them im following them or pop up on their news feed, even tho i was already following them to begin with? HELP

No it will be okay as long as you didn't completely remove them from your friends.

Yes of-course they will see. Not only them anybody can see who are the followers of a particular person .

FB says "No, Facebook does not provide a functionality that enables you to track who is viewing your timeline, or parts of your timeline, such as your photos. Third party applications also cannot provide this functionality. Applications that claim to give you this ability will be removed from Facebook for violating policy"

However in that case, then yes they will, because you clicked on their "Add Friend" link.

They will receive an Add Friend notice from you even though you cancelled it because
once that notice has gone you can't stop it arriving in their Profile!
