What should I learn about event marketing?
hi!
How does event/social media marketing work? I am only a casual user of Twitter, FB, Foursquare.. What are a few marketing concepts that are commonly used in the events and promotion industry and What should I learn? I'm a communications student and my college recently posted an event marketing internship for a non-profit website that hosts events for the local community. The intern is responsible for updating the site and posting information to social media outlets. I believe I can do this because I am familiar with event websites, web coding, and Twitter, but "marketing" is my hang up because I have zero on-the-job online/social media marketing experience. Well, a simple Marketing idea would be think about selling the benefits that the event will provide, rather than the features.
For example, the even will feature Speaker A on the subject of B. Well, rather than just saying that, maybe you would say something that tells the audience how they will benefit from listening. Something like: "Learn how to..." or "become better at..." etc. Something like this should answer the question of "what's in it for them." Other than that, Facebook is a very good platform for events. Also, providing good incentives for registration is important. Things like early-bird discounts and contests can help a lot.
