Facebook's a great way to connect with friends and people you used to know, but if you're going to post pictures from last Friday's party or whatever, maybe not. If you know that you'll be responsible on Facebook, then go for it. When using Facebook, it's a good idea to keep away from controversial topics and whatnot, because your future employers will see that, and they may disagree with your views, which is not good, because they could dislike you based on your beliefs. Hope I helped!

If you resisted for that long you don't need Facebook, you just "feel" the need for it.

Ask yourself why you feel this need and try to find an alternative.

It is only to have a digital presence so people can find your contact information online?

If so, then you can create a Facebook account only to be found by others.

You can set up your profile with a picture, your phone number, your email address and other places people can reach you.

You can also do the same with Google+,Twitter and other services.

You simply have to complete your profile and update it every once in a while without sharing anything.

People googling your name will find your profile, then can contact you.

What's nice about having a profile on the web is that, you're in control of your information.

If you don't have a profile, then you're forced to tell every single person how to reach you. You're forced to give them your name, your phone numbers, your email addresses, etc...

Then, they have to save this information somewhere and if they loose this information, they can't reach you anymore.

Also, what if you change your phone number ?

Well... you're forced to tell every single person again your new phone number, you may forget some important people in your network and they may never be able to reach you again.

That's why it's important to have a profile on the web, in your control, so every time there is a change you can update your profile information for everyone to see.

Facebook is a great way to keep in contact with friends and family, but you need to know how to use it responsibly, especially if you are planning on looking for a job or if you want to get into a good university.

Yes, it helps to make sure your settings are on Private, however, many companies and schools are asking for your login information, so that won't help if an employer or school wants to check your page.

The only way you can be safe from losing a job, not getting a job, or not getting into a good school is by making sure you don't post things that could come back and bite you in the butt later. In other words: THINK before you post.

Also, don't post constant updates to your status and don't post ridiculous pictures.

Facebook is what you make of it. It's not evil, but some people abuse it and make it "evil" in their lives.
