How do I change my facebook notifications?

I set it up a few years ago to notify me when certain people update their status and stuff like that. Now I wanna change it. How do I change it so I can get rid of some people and add new people in?

I wanna get a notification when my new friends update their status. How do I do that?

edit your "close friends" list - that's the list which controls who you get notifications from
