How to get more followers on instagram?

I got my instagram ages ago but I only started telling people about it yesterday and now I have 26 followers. I haven't posted anything yet because I don't know what to post and I suck at taking selfies.

You could follow people back and advertise that you do on your posts,
I started using it yesterday and I gained 20 followers just by liking and following bands and their posts. You could try that, if you like and follow things people will probably see your name and might follow you. A lot of the people following me were just trying to advertise their bands hah

But basically you need to post pics, like and comment other's pictures, and hashtag your pictures. You definitely need a couple pics of you on there because if people see that you say "this is a pretty picture of you", but you don't have a picture of what you look like, they're going to think you're some creep or weirdo.
