How do you add emoticons to your facebook status?

I have seen a lot of my FB friends adding little emoticons to their statuses and I was wondering how to do it. They have like sports equipment, smileys, animals, etc. I don't want it to say "feeling... or drinking...", I just want the picture. Anyone know how to do it?? Thanks!

Only using your computer, normally. And by clicking the smiley emoticon below the status.

Facebook, from a computer, now allows us to add emoticons from thd toolbar right under the status box. It's right next to the "add people" button and the "Location" button. Other than that only iPhone users can really add emoticons from their phones straight to the status update.
