I am having a hard time designing an experiment for this question.

Social media? Like what... facebook? Sorry, I'm a bit stupid...

How about you find similar friends, similar personalities and characters I mean, looks don't matter. Type the question on facebook to one, speak to the other.

Questions need a non Yes or No answer?

Like...
What are you doing on the weekend?
What did you think about (something) on the news?
What do you think I should do-?

Write it down afterwards (so not to look weird) and analyse it. See if you use better grammar in spoken, or when you use social media. See if language (like LOL) or abbreviations are used.

Then, look around a social media website. Find a chat forum, with a question maybe, and look at responses. Are they rude? Are they more polite? Do they get away with more? Write down all the answers, analyse them like before, then give your idea if replying to this if it was spoken out loud would be usual, considered polite, or rude/ strange?

A good idea is post a question. Do a poll. Would you prefer to use social media to talk with friends or meet them? Why? Is it less bother?

Then ask another question like this maybe? Do you think social media is bad? Just that. And add a - why? Write down the answers, how many answered etc; and so on.

You therefore are analysing the difference in reactions to the a question on social media (for experiment 1) and meeting in person, seeing what people believe they can get a way with, and what is right for that situation Etc;
