Does anybody still wish they had been allowed to invest their Social Security funds in the stock market?

I work for the government. I don't pay into social security or collect from it when I retire. I've always had to invest to make sure I have enough money when I'm old enough to stop working. The small pension that I will get isn't enough.

If you had invested your SS money into a diversified stock portfolio at the age of 20, and you were now 65, you'd be doing MUCH better than someone who had let the government watch over his money!
SS is a LONG term investment, so stock market fluctuatioins and corrections will not do too much damage a diversified portfolio over the LONG run. |

Good question. Americans have a hard enough time knowing they are over-extended on personal finance... most are still blaming that for the crash of the 3. Which tells you how little they know about how investment groups work.

Yep, I sure do! Don't be fooled though. Not everyone has the ability to spot a sound investment. It's those people who the government is looking out for aside from the available funds that Washington would have lost out on to divert to additional social programs. Additionally: the failings of certain banks, investment and insurance companies aren't the overall investment sectors. Look at how well JNJ, TGT, UUP and others have done in this down trend.
