Meeting girls on Facebook, is it alright?

i dont really like askin girls out via intenet. but theres a couple girls on there i woul like to get to know. one in particular use to go to my highschool, we had a few classes together never really talked though i was always shy, im a lot more open now.
Been out of highschool for 2 years so haven't really seen any of them since

anyway is it alright to hit her up on facebook? i want to ask her to hang out one day,or would it be weird considering she doesnt really know me that well.. and how should i start things off?

Ok mate my last gf lived in another country and id never met her before facebook, both 17 btw. i know this is ironic to advise you but me and this girl went out for a year so i must have done something right. Basically become friends then good friends on facebook. dont rush. then when you are good freinds say you wanna skype. than talk more often and get to know her more . if you start getting hints and stuffg that she likes you just ask her out , win... thats it simples
