By making people believe that "everyone" is doing it (whatever it may be) and they would be left out if they do not comply.

the media effects attitude totally. they portray a story or a situation in the way they want it to be seen and you to perceive it. take the tabloids 4 example the sun is funny, chatty it mocks alot and persuades u to think a certain way. where as the the telegraph is factually based and displays wat it seen to be true. i think the media is corrupt and its for people to develop there own social attitude and opinions towards situations and not rely on the media to explain there profound explanations as its not always truthful.
