Users of GS. Is this a good thing or bad thing?
Facebook is adding 50 different types of gender identification now. You no longer have just 2 or 3 options.
Is this good or bad? And why? Please state your gender....any of the 50 possible answers will be fine. Here is a link. http://blog.al.com/breaking/2014/02/face...ent_g.html Ya Coffee. I agree with you. And the option not to list anything was a good policy move. Granny. How you talk! BW. my sentiments exactly. Grace. I love that. Bless her heart! Ads |

I understand that with businesses and media outlets having facebook pages this is necessary and indeed good.
I think the most important option it this: 'Users will still be able to opt to keep their gender identity private." Ads |

It was kind of weird, since most of those words were just synonyms.
I don't know if I fit any of them. I mostly think of myself as a gay man trapped in a woman's body. |

What?
That sounds ludicrous. It is probably something to do with marketing, Facebook already invades your privacy enough as it is. @ Granny Tea - That's interesting...you're always providing new insights about yourself. |

This can't be good. My 84 year old neighbor woman, married for 60 years, has listed her "Interested in" to be "women". She's doesn't realize it's asking about sexual orientation. She doesn't want any men as her friends, as it's not proper. So she says "I'm interested in having only women friends on here". God love her.
I'm scared what she might list if she's got 50 options. |

I mostly don't care what sorts of stuff Facebook wants to include to "change the world" or whatever it is they are trying to do. The privacy thing is really the most important part that Coffee listed. After all, FB is a purely voluntary recreational thing people choose to participate or not.
Now....50? Really? Who picked them? Hollywood writers? How about this (are you listening Facebook?). Have two sections on this. One of them is what you physically are by chromosomes: XX XY To a much lesser extent, variations like XXY (Klinefelter syndrome). This is all biology and scientific fact. Then have another category of what you feel like you are. They should include things like "zombie" or "parasitic xenomorph" (plus others) as well. After all, my feelings of who I am are important too! |

I think it is a good thing. It means a lot to some people and makes them happy.

I think many of the 50 are literally the same but they should add the ones necessary for trans and andro.
P.S. to those who don't like it, just don't use it. |

"The more information you give Facebook, the more money you're worth to Facebook."
That's all you need to know. The only reason they have done this. |
