I’ve seen people lose their jobs, be arrested and have people show up at their door intent on doing them harm based on things they have said on social media sites. So that said how much freedom of speech do you actually have when it comes to the internet?

You have as much as the provider and the nation allows or all you want if you are willing to accept the consequences. If you slander someone even here you are liable for damages as a court decides if you are sued. Otherwise write what you want and be prepared for the result.

Remember for all the freedoms we engage ourselves in, with it comes responsibilities as to how our behavior, our words and actions, affect others. We should convey our opinions in sensible ways and be tolerant of criticism and of those who we may affect. Freedom of speech and expression is a fundamental right. Just don't use it as a battering ram to burst down other differing opinions or thought-processes. Respecting one another is a key to better communication skills and being able to get our opinions across more readily and acceptable to others.
