There are lots of ways you can do affiliate marketing. There isn't one method, and there are literally thousands of products and offers to choose from.

I've been doing affiliate marketing for a while now, part time. I project I'm about a year and half away from being able to quit my "real" job and do A.M. full time.

When I come across a question as broad as this, I always say the same thing; to start, think of a few things you like and are knowledgeable about (a hobby, favorite food, favorite animal, etc.), and start from there. A lot of affiliate marketing is creating content for your websites, and it really helps for you to know at least a little about what you're talking about.

The formula I would suggest for anyone new to this would be something like this:
1. Research and find your niche.
2. Build Website/Blog around your niche (articles, keyword saturation. content, content, content!)
3. Monetize your site: Join affiliate programs related to your niche and add their programs to your site (banner ads, text affiliate links, Google AdSense)
4. Promote your site: Get listed with all the major search engines, add your site to Web 2.0 sites such as squidoo, MySpace, Facebook, Twitter, etc.) Get as many links back to your site as possible.
5. Update & Add Content: In order for your site to be relevant, you must continually update your site with new, fresh, and relevant content.
6. As your traffic grows, so will the checks.

There is SO much to do when doing affiliate marketing, it would be impossible to cram it all in here. Look around the web and read as much as you can.

If you're serious about starting this, I wouldn't mind helping you out as a mentor of sorts. Please feel free to write me if you'd like more direction. I'm always down for helping someone out.

Hope this helped.
