what will this time period/generation be remembered for?
I always wonder about what will be written in history books for the time period we are currently in.

Off the top of my head I can think of:

-Influx of technology (of course this can be broken down into more specific things like...the invention of smartphones, tablets, touchscreen, social media, youtube, etc.)
- LGBT rights and equality
-War against terrorism (and terror attacks all over the globe)
-First African-American president in the U.S.
-The state of the US economy (although I guess it has been getting better)
-Natural disasters (Haiti earthquake, Japan's earthquake, Hurricane Sandy, etc.)

What other things would you include?
Nate: What do you mean by "you"?
This is not what I am going to be remembered for. Please do not say "you" as if I am the sole representative of this generation.

this is my list for what your generation will be remembered for:
First black president
Examples of how not to attempt recovery
Examples of how people believe everything they see on the internet (Such as that map that was going around a while ago that supposedly shown the radiation from jappan spreading, and it was just a map of waves)
MP3, IPod, First Smart Phones
Beginning to make everything cloud

I'm sure you noticed there were only 2 good things on the list, i really can't think off anything else good you could possibly be remembered for.

In my opinion we are in the USA Empire stage, the British and Ottoman before that have both crumbled.

Global networking, news coverage and social equality means empires are not constructed in the old way, but if you take military bases (which is essentially how it used to be measured as an occupation) american forces are all over the world, couple this with economic dominance and american 'influence' it is basically an empire.

And in terms of social change, the rise of technology and equality, although capitalism is also at a peak in my opinion.
