Links often get questions blocked so let me provide the relevant quotes and article titles for you to search on your own.

This is from an article titled "DoD Training Manual: ‘Extremist’ Founding Fathers ‘Would Not Be Welcome In Today’s Military’ "

"“Nowadays,” the manual explains, “instead of dressing in sheets or publicly espousing hate messages, many extremists will talk of individual liberties, states’ rights, and how to make the world a better place.”"

And this is from an article titled "Conservative ‘Extremists’ Force Twitter Trend"

"People who espouse conservative ideologies, such as “wanting to make the world a better place,” were recently surprised to learn a lot of the values they embrace actually make them potential “extremists,” “racists” or “terrorists” in the eyes of the Department of Defense, according to a recently exposed training manual.

In response to the full-frontal demonization campaign, the hashtag #IMustBeAnExtremistBecause has taken off as a trending Twitter topic, with quite a few people making some insanely extremist statements, such as “#imustbeanextremistbecause I believe the Constitution is still relevant,” and “#IMustBeAnExtremistBecause I think the government wastes entirely too much of our money.”"

So what makes you an extremist?

Well then I must be one because I'm all for individual liberties, states’ rights, and how to make the world a better place. I did read that story and I think it's despicable of our govt

Our politicians sure aren't making it a better place

I guess what makes me an extremist is that I get very irritated that we don't really dig deep to figure out how to fix our problems. We just point our fingers and blame a certain group when the problem actually goes a lot deeper and eventually makes it to ourselves. Also, nobody can take a joke unless the joke is on somebody different.
