If I Private Message On Facebook, Can They See My Profile?

I've had a few problems with people lurking my Facebook recently so I'm quite cautious. Now, I've had someone friend request me with quite a few mutual friends, and was wondering if I private messaged that person to see how they knew me would they be able to see my Facebook profile?

Any answers would be very appreciated.

if you're usin' the old facebook then they can see only your basic info but in the new facebook i don't think that they can or at least at the last time that i got a "Private Message " mes. form someone who's not in my fb friends list i couldn't see his profile.
