How can Google+ beat facebook?

I'm sick of the privacy betrayals of Facebook. I want to use google+ however, most of my friends remain on facebook. What needs to be done to kill facebook?

Google's privacy policies aren't much better in all honesty. Google collects the same, if not more information about you and who and what you connect with. People just need to switch over to Google+; that would kill Facebook. What really needs to happen is the Google+ team needs to finally release a full developer API so applications can better connect to the social network.
