What should I put down as my intended major?
I am a good student and am currently applying to UGA. I only have one problem -- I do not know what to put for my intended major!

I would love to be a high school teacher, preferably english or psychology. I also love social work, business, marketing, organization....

Basically, I need an opinion. Do I have better chances not choosing a popular major? I don't want to choose undecided...

Very few high school have dedicated psychology teachers. So you're more likely to get a job as an English major. Business, psychology, and English are the most popular majors.

Although you have said that you don't want to put undecided, this is the best choice for someone like you trying to choose between majors before starting college. Students who go into college without selecting a major at first are actually more likely to graduate within 4 years. As crazy as it sounds this is true due to the fact that humans change their minds! By selecting a major now you could end up taking a bunch of specialized courses for a certain degree that will not transfer if you decide to switch.

Your best option is to select undecided and then during freshman orientation when students meet with a guidance counselor, indicate your interests. They will help you save time and allow you to better manage your college experience! Good luck!

If you want to be a teacher, you MUST major in Education. Every state has different requirememnts for high school teachers, but you absolutely need a degree in education. Many schools will allow you to choose a concentration, which I sugest english, as a lot of schools won't hire someone to teach just psychology (you'd also need to teach history, pol. science, ect)

Social work and psychology have low pay, high unemployment rates and high stress.
Business is a popular degree.
