Starting a conversation on facebook with a possible roommate?

I recently became friends on facebook with a girl who is going to the same college as me. I wanted to send her a message to learn more about her and see if she could be a possible roommate for me but I'm unsure how to start the message without being totally weird. I am going to a school where I know no one. I do not know this girl but I thought I may give her a shot.

Are you alone in your class? How could you go to school where you know no one?

Just be open and honest with her. Ask her if you could meet for lunch, or for coffee since you have, more or less, known her for a while. It does not look weird and I don't think she would take it wrongly. In the same message you can say that you looking for new roommate and if she's considering the same thing, it may work out.

If she doesn't need a new roommate, you have made a friend.
