Does facebook purge friends?

Lately I have had a few friends delete me that I would never have thought do this. I also actually got up the nerve to trying to add one that I thought at first deleted me, but he claimed he never did this. Is it possible that facebook might randomly delete a friend. On their site they clam they don't, but I am not so sure. What do you think and have you had any experiences with this?

yes it is, it has happened to me too. Once facebook deleted my friend and she got mad at me coz she though i deleted her coz she put a pic of me on facebook -__- stupidest argument ever
