What do I do, this girl just friend zoned me? What do you think I did wrong?

Alright, so I know this girl for a few years, and a couple years ago she told me I was really attractive and wanted to go out with me, but I wasn`t too interested in going out with her, so I never went on a date at that time, but we were sort of involved off and on. We stayed friends, and I got her presents for the next valentines day, which she liked and posted pictures of on facebook, twitter, etc. But I was involved with someone else at the time, so we didn`t do anything. I decided to ask her out on a date a couple weeks ago, and she happily agreed and we had a nice date. She was even joking around about being in love with me, and stuff like that. I told her we should go out again, and she happily agreed again. Well, I texted her asking her to go out for dinner, but she messaged me back saying she wanted it to be clear that we were only friends and what not. What do you think I did wrong? Did I come on too strong? Am I suffering from a backlash of Karma? What could I have done wrong? Should I give up on her?

well, it's hard to say but

my guess is, she is just being cautious....you should be cautious as well

if you can actually stand just hanging out with her and enjoying her company without
getting all dramatic over it, then you may actually have a decent chance of getting along, permanently, but don't be too pushy, just keep it real, be yourself and don't brag about anything. be honest but not too complimentary.
