Social networking and Internet marketing are two separate things, but you can use social networking as part of your Internet marketing strategy.
Social networking is about making friendships and building a network. It need not be exclusive to online social networking (although I presume that's what you are really referring to). Social networking has been around forever; it's about building a network for the mutual benefit of the participants. That may be friendship, business, or even just getting a question answered. Even today, people still participate in many different social clubs where the members share a common interest. This can be anything from a local optimist club, Lion's club, business chamber of commerce or meet up group, just to name a few. Internet marketing is the use of the Internet to market your product or service to your target audience. Common Internet marketing strategies include blogging, pay per click advertising, banner advertising, forum advertising, and leveraging social media online. The point of any type of networking is to build relationships. If you happen to be in business, people will only buy from you if they know, like and trust you. Hence, social networking has become a powerful tool for Internet marketers to use to build credibility and trust. Hope that helps. http://www.NetworkMarketingSuccessSecrets.com |

Yes, in two ways.
First the whole idea behind a social network is not to give people a way to connect to each other. It is to create a place where they will come regularly so the site can sell advertising. I can be a very effective place to advertise, because a happy customer can lead to lots of word of mouth advertising. Secondly if you are selling/marketing a product you must network and build relationships. Social networks give you a convenient way to do that online. |
