Facebook Notification HELP?

So, I never got a notification and it wasn't visible on my wall, but someone commented on my status and I got an e-mail sent to me from facebook in hotmail. I don't think that means they deleted it, because I commented on my friends status as a test and deleted it within 10 seconds and they still got a notification although it wasn't on their wall. So could someone tell me what happened??

They most likely deleted it.
But it could just be a mistake on facebooks part. Who the hell knows what could have happened with the internet.
Someone may have also reported it, so it was taken off.
