how to make it into photography?

i wanna be a photographer i know all the stuff about the cameras etc i just need to know once you have the equipment how do you start how do i get money out of it etc how do i do it?

First, let me refer you to the Reddit "photography" sub-reddit:

A lot of the guys there are working pros and just reading through a lot of this material will give you some insights.

There are also links in the sidebar to almost every aspect of photography.

Then, you have to be willing to learn enough to be the master of your craft and to look for opportunities almost everywhere. There are still plenty of opportunities for weddings, advertising, film work, architecture, etc, etc.
In order to make money, you have to be willing and able to handle nearly anything that comes along.
If you start to get some recognition in a particular field, like nature photography, you may be able to specialize but remember you're self-employed and there's no steady paycheck other than what you generate with your own initiative.

I've read an awful lot of budding photographers who found the only way they could make money was shooting weddings and such and they hated it.....

Once you have the equipment, you spend around 10 or more years learning to make photos that other people want to buy.


Equipment makes photos. Experience makes pictures people want to buy.

The way you make it is that you take photos people are willing to buy.

You spend 5-10 years learning the basics & honing your skills. Judging by your naive questions, you seem to think you can just buy a camera & get started. That's like saying you can buy a set of spanners & 'know' how to strip an engine.

You 'make it' by learning, not by spending.

Clearly you do not know about 'cameras & stuff' or you wouldn't be asking the kinds of questions you are asking.

Get behind the queue of about a million other aspiring photographers.
Try submitting photos to magazines and see if they want to use them. Obviously, you'll have to do suitable shots for the magazine's content; eg, Wildlife, Fashion, Gardening, Nature, DIY etc

1. If you do not have a website or sharesite, I suggest starting one to display and organize all of your photographs. You will need to show potential clients samples of your work
(shutterfly has FREE sharesites.)

2 Take online classes to learn about the ins and outs of photography and use the assignments to build your portfolio.

I really enjoyed this class and it was afforadable and you can take it from anywhere in the world.

3. Start taking pictures for friends and family or at local events to gain experience, to build your portfolio, and establishing a reputation.

4. Start a Facebook page exclusively for your photography.

5. make business cards and logo which you will use overlaying your photos to copyright protect your pics.

6. establish what printing service you will to order prints for customers unless you make arrangement only to give them digital files.

7. slowly spread word on facebook that you are photographer looking for work. figure out what your strength is and offer that service..(portraits, family, individuals, sports, local events, animals, weddings, pregnancy, children, parties)

8. contact your local newspaper and they hire photographers and pay to cover events

9. submit your pics to stock clip art galleries that make them available for purchase and give you a percentage
