I went from getting hugs, to a hair ruffle?

To make an excruciating long story short, my guy friend and I got into this fizz a few months back, and stopped being friends and communicating. However, I had always sent him messages here and there letting him know how much I care etc. The other day, he made plans to meet me, which we hadn't hung out since the summer, but I noticed he was being distant, and overly formal. I wasn't expecting him to jump right back into our normal conversations and traditions, but I also couldn't tell if this is the end for us. When we were about to go our separate ways, he gave me some words of encouragement about something we were talking about, and said "I'm sure I'll talk to you soon", or something like that, and then ruffled my hair and we left. Later that day, I tried texting him but it wouldn't go through, and I know it didn't have anything to do with my phone because I could send/receive messages from others. So, I messaged him on social media and he got back to me. If he had blocked my number, don't you think he would've told me?
