Marketing is completely based on social psychology.

You can only identify your "target group" by knowing what they will buy and what they will steer away from.

Advertising is failing to bring back results these days because people have forgotten how to reach their customers.

For instance - think of all the ads you see on TV - some of your favorite ones - now try to remember what product they were selling... see, it doesn't make any sense!

People are buying things because they feel obligated to these days... it's like we are slaves to corporate America...
There is no longer this sense of pride in choosing the best product for the job like there used to be.

Advertising used to be very effective because companies knew that their customers supported certain "philosophies".

Now the TV tells you what you're going to buy and you can't even remember what they said half the time... They've stopped trying to appeal to new customers and just started releasing announcements of what their new piece of crap is that you're going to have to go out and get in order to be "normal."

Psychology has a lot to do with where things are placed on the shelves too... look at cereal boxes... they put the sugary crap on the bottom shelf so that kids will see it and beg their parents for it... they put the healthy stuff at eye level for older adults.

Also, the internet is making it harder for companies to lie to people... you have to be honest now because people can educate themselves at the touch of a button... that is why "Organic Food" is finally getting big and fast food is dwindling...
