Feeling Like A Failure?
I am 48 years. I have made some very foolish choices in life that explain why I am a miserable security guard today. I graduated from two colleges in the 1990s but did nothing with my degree. I rent a tiny furnished room in a co-op apartment owned by someone else. I have not been able to date since gaining too many pounds over 15 years ago. Are you depressed reading my story? Try being me for a day.

Seems like you have a job and possibly a better future if you want one. You only are a looser if you don't improve and of course you know what you need to do. Go do it!!

First, I want to tell you that it's possible to start your life over at any age. I did it in my 60's. I would suggest two things. First, find a life coach. It's a profession I became aware of several years ago. They help you set goals and develop a plan for whatever you want to focus on--job, career, social life.

Since the recession, career networking support groups have developed. They help you expand your job search and learn to market yourself. Indeed.com is an excellent job search site.

Stop beating yourself up for what you did in the past. Focus on your strengths and interests today. Volunteer work gets us out of ourselves and exposes us to new people and new possibilities. Good luck with your quest.

Hi Harpazo

Wow. Well, you are at a low level in your life, no doubt. What most would want to know is what are you going to do about it?

I saw a nice vid on a guy that dropped a couple hundred pounds and kept a photo journal as he ran the pounds off. It was empowering to him, and I found it also for myself...dropped 8 pounds so far.

There's a number of part time self employment endeavors you might consider. I'm doing one, and it's helping. An ex of mine made some moolah in another endeavor part time. Happy to pass that along to you.

The degree you graduated with...I'd be curious as to what it's in. You can build on top of what you have and specialize in a niche that will get you back on the road.

You're depressed. I don't blame you. But depression is disabling. Your brain can only think one thing at a time. Flood out the depression with positive books, tapes and videos. It helped me quite a bit. Over time, it builds on itself and you get the energy you need to get things done.

Hey, I'm 60 and am still having fun evolving my life. See what you can do by the time you're my age. I wish you well and success.

Dr. D
