How to gradually ask a guy out to a school dance?

I don't know him very well and we've spoke several times on and off social media. He did a game on social media about me that was super sweet. I see him a lot in the hallways and the dance is less than a week. How can I worked my way to ask him out without creeping him out? Or is it too soon? How should I asked him? With food? And as you may have guess I have a major crush on him!
