Are we really friends? (Please, I need advice!)?

Ok so this is hard to explain, so basically my I went to an outdoor camp thingy over 2 years ago. I really liked it and the people working there became like family. I returned as a volunteer leader and I spent around 3 months total of this year there. I am younger than all the permanent employees.

There's a girl who works there who I get on great with, I look up to her and respect her a great deal. She's roughly 10 years older than me and I trust her a lot. I've spoken to her about things that I've never actually shared with another human being. At home away from the camp, I've messaged her on facebook about things in my life and she's listened and given advice.

I'm always worried that she is just being friendly because it's her job. How do I know if we're actually friends or if she's just being professional? Bearing in mind that she sees hundreds of people like me in a year. I don't want to annoy her by popping up on facebook chat and she doesn't want to be rude. I've messaged her a couple of times and she's ignored it, but then others, we've spent hours just chatting about random things. She's never messaged me, but she doesn't start conversations much face to face either.

Are we really friends? Should I make an effort to chat to her still? I really look up to her and I kinda view her as a sister, I don't want to be annoying.

You can do two things.
1. Ignore her for a while and see if she misses you and sends you a message first. That will show that she cares and is really your friend

Or

2. Tell her about how you feel, she may not be rude about it and say that she doesn't mind, but ask her to be completely honest with you.

Watch her replies, if they're short and dull, then she is annoyed is like you said she spends hours talking to you then she cares and sees you as a friend. There is no way to tell for sure unless you try one of the above.
