How to show my crush i'm interested? (very shy)?

Okay so I have a major crush on this guy who's in one of my classes. There have been some indicators of him maybe being interested (such as prolonged eye contact, him checking me out while i wasn't looking and him going red around me sometimes) but i'm super shy and i think he might be shy too. We haven't really spoken much before, only in group classwork really. Because i'm really shy, my 'signals' of showing that i like him have probably been very subtle and i don't think he knows that i like him.
How can i show him that i'm interested without being flat out obvious? Bearing in mind that i'm very shy and couldn't just go up to him and start talking to him. He does talk to other girls in the class sometimes, but he's never started a conversation with me, my friend said that may be because he doesn't wanna look like an idiot in front of me?

Also, I've been told that guys won't really make a move unless they're sure a girl is interested, is this true?

He perhaps doesn't want to make you feel uncomfortable.
I suppose you could try and find him on Facebook? Great way to chat without the embarrassment of doing so face to face...what do you think?
Doesn't have to be much. 'Are u going 2 --- party?" Kinda thing?
