How do I know if he likes me & should I tell him I like him?

I am in high school and met this guy in one of my classes. We became good friends and he changed who he was sitting with at lunch to eat with me. He started instant messaging me on Facebook a couple of months ago several times a week. Sometimes it would about homework & other times just to talk. He tells me every week that i'm pretty. One weekend he asked if he could join my sister & I at a movie we were going to and we had fun. Then later I asked him to join my friend & I at a movie and he came. When he got home from that movie, he messaged me for 2 hrs and we had deep conversations about God, our fears, and what we want to do after high school. This happened during Christmas break & started messaging me everyday all day for a week. He invited me over to his house but my parents said he could only come to mine since they had not met him yet. He came over for 5 hrs and we had a blast. As soon as he got home, he messaged me to say what a great time he had. We skyped the next day but mainly over homework. Then he quit messaging me for 2 days which was really different from the previous week. However he then wrote the sweetest thing on my Facebook page so I'm very confused and he's still not talking to me like he was. He is friends with lots of girls but chooses to sit with me at lunch instead of them. He says I'm such a great friend and I say the same thing to him but I like him more now. I can't tell if he likes me more than a friend or not and it's driving me crazy. I don't know if I should tell him how I feel or ask him how he feels. I don't want to ruin the friendship. Don't know what to think or do.
Some of the other reasons I am confused about his feelings for me is because when he stopped messaging me, I sent him a nice message but he didn't respond. After he wrote the really sweet message on my Facebook wall, I asked him if he wanted to go to park with me and he did and we had lots of fun again. He messaged me later that night. Then the next day at school he started walking with me to class then sped off and left me. We have lunch during the middle of that class so he asked a girl sitting next to him to move so I could sit there, but then after class - he didn't talk to me and met some other girl at her locker. So many mixed messages.

guys are very (and i mean VERY) straight forward and they wouldn't even have a second glance, let alone talk to a girl if they don't like the girl. tell him you like him, worst case scenario he doesn't like you back. thats the kinda thing guys go through all the time. welcome to our life.

He likes you. He probably stopped writing and talking the same way because he thinks you aren't interested in him. My best advice to you is make the first move -- ask him if he likes you.
