online harassment uk?
Someone has reported me for sending them offensive mails on facebook. I've met this person only once and we fell out so they have done this for attention. The police say I have to be interviewed about it. I sent them from a fake profile but the person knew my name. I know this can be classified as harassment since there is no free speech in the UK.

I've not had any warnings and I haven't contacted the person for 3 months in any way and I have only mailed the person a few times on my real fb but that was a year ago (and not in an abusive way). Will they have enough evidence since I haven't admitted to owning that account on my real fb? The account I used for the messages was deleted 3 months ago. Will they bother tracing the IP of the account or is that too much hassle for a case like this?

They said if I don't attend the interview they will come to my house, can they arrest me for this or would avoiding it land me in more trouble?

Thanks for all advice as I've never been interviewed before

With free speech comes responsibility.

Unless you threatened the other person with bodily harm, I doubt they will try to track the IP address.
Just cooperate with the police and it will be over soon; if you aren't found guilty and you cooperated well then they will think you are trustworthy and you will be labeled as a credible person in their eyes.

There is free speech in the UK.
What you are doing is NOT free speech it is potentially harassment or worse depending on the content of the mails.

Free speech does not mean you can send offensive or threatening mails.

I am surprised that the Police are even bothering with this as they must be sick to death of complaints relating to facebook, it's time the site was closed down. As long as you didn't threaten anybody there is not much the Police can do anyway except issue a Non Harassment Order. Just be truthful with them.

Misuse of Communications is I believe a simple caution.
Just make sure you have someone with you, and a solicitor would be your best bet even if it costs.

But it is a long time ago so something you wrote has run real alarm bells

Do not talk to the police; do not answer the door if they call. Let them write to you. Act as if it never happened. It is up to the person concerned to bring charges - don't make it easy for them; and should you ever be arrested say nothing until you've had the opportunity to talk to a brief (solicitor); everybody nowadays thinks they are being harassed. Facebook is stupid and attracts stupid people. Stay away from social media if you want to be yourself and express your views. You've learnt your lesson already.
