Why do people use career-oriented social networking sites?

Everyone is so busy and are moving further away as I get older - it's just become easier to keep in touch with all my friends through websites. I love facebook because we can all upload pic's and show each other what we are up too.

Because they like to meet people of similar age or interest.

When I use those sites I just like to see the friends or colleagues that came one before in my path...its good to know that they are successful and to perhaps catch up on the time that we were apart. As much as we dont want it there are always the friends that like to compete with you and see who wants to make more money or who is more sucessful when you know that someone is doing well you also want to do well. Right??

Because they are lazy talentless people who'd rather suck up and kiss ass than do a decent days work? I mean, heck, that's why I do it.

Myspace for adults, retarded. They make phone and e-mail for a reason.

Well it's the old adage - it's not what you know, it's who you know. If you see a job advertised and happen to know someone who works in the company then you're not just another face in the crowd.
My social networking contacts include people who I used to know that are now living all over the world. Just think of the possibilities that this opens up. You wouldn't normally talk to them but just keeping in touch that little bit via the good old world wide web means you never know when they could come in handy.

I'd be happy to help an old friend who was looking for work if I was able to and knew they were trustworthy.
