Is it too risky to make my Instagram unprivate??

I'm a 14 year old girl. My mom is kinda strict about social media and she's always really worried that I'm not being safe on the internet. I am VERY responsible and I wouldn't talk to anybody that I didn't know. My mom makes me have a private Instagram account. None of my friends have private Instagram accounts. I do post "selfies" and I have my kik and snapchat usernames displayed on my profile. I really don't want my Instagram to be private because I don't have very many followers and I want more. Do you think it's a big deal if I make my account unprivate? If someone follows me who seems creepy I can just block them can't I? I'd also be willing to remove my Kik and snapchat information from my profile if it would be too risky to have it be accessible by strangers. Pretty much everybody that has sent me follow requests have been kids my age that I know or people that I've crossed paths with at some point or another

To be honest making your instagram unprivate isn't a big deal you could just block anyone who bothers u anyways like u mentioned . Ive had mine for a while now and never had to block anyone and i got strangers on mine so ... yea pretty safe to me as long as u dont like post your address and stuff but i know youre smart enought to not do that... Hey I'll follow u just follow me @theoriginal13 and comment yahoo in my latest pic ill like yur pics lol

Parents are always takes care of their child and they has little bit some knowledge of Internet and new technology. So they always want you to keep some distance form these mainly social media like posting photo, they don't like it. Instagram is one of best social media sites and they take care of users. So no risk if your profile is non private. If any body disturb you or you don't like that person's comments then block that person.
