facebook - see who's viewing your profile info...?

I'm new to facebook. I see in some peoples pictures that there's something that says see who's viewing your profile & it looks like you click on something to get it? How does it work? Can you really see who looks at your profile? What if you don't want people to know you are looking at their profile?

I dont believe that whole check who views your profile the most because I got listed as someone who views this guys profile and I have only viewed it once, I forgot he was even on my friends list, he is my cousins ex boyfriend so I never viewed his profile the only reason I had him as a friend is because he asked to friend me back when he was dating my cousin so I feel like its just a random fake thing and it doesnt really show you who views your profile the most. waste of time.

Facebook doesn't allow people to track who views their profiles. Facebook applications, on the other hand, are unable to track anybody unless they have the consent of the viewer.
